A hand-painted promotional cel of Yugi Mutou from Yu-Gi-Oh! (1998 Toei TV series), Episode 9: "Explosion - The Ultimate Secret Yo-Yo Technique." Commissioned by Toei Animation for the studio's official Episode 9 page ahead of the show's first broadcast, where the cel image remains published today.
Unlike ordinary production cels, this promotional piece was produced in single-copy form for marketing display - making it one of the only surviving 1998 Toei Yu-Gi-Oh! cels in private hands. Original cels from the 1998 Toei series rarely surface on the Western market; examples from the series' marketing pipeline are rarer still.
The artwork captures Yugi's early-series design and the expressive, pre-digital colour palette emblematic of Toei's 1990s period, matched 1:1 with the scene as it aired.
